When Sam first met Mitch, Mitch immediately wanted him to learn drums and move overseas with him. This is yet to happen. Instead, both have spent over ten years living with or near each other in the inner city, stimulating each other's creativity. Shooter and subject admire as much they inspire each other.

Growing up in a broken home and a small country town didn't offer Mitch much in the way of photography, art, music or decency. The Tolman family album is thin, almost empty, making this bond and ongoing series a cathartic experience for these two friends.

 

Today, Mitch considers Sam the sixth or invisible member of Low Life. More than a band, Low Life is a posse and collaboration between friends in low places, which Sam tries to document in the family album Mitch always wanted.
